The advisor (R) to the Governor, EN Ram Mohan, has said that development of infrastructure in Tamenglong district, particularly roads and communications, is high on the agenda of the state administration.
Ram Mohan, who undertook a three day tour of the district beginning on New Year's Day to assess the state of infrastructure and the grievances of the public in the district, admitted to IFP upon his return to the capital that compared to the other districts of the state, Tamenglong was still backward.
The poor state of the roads and communication infrastructure is one of the main reasons for the backwardness, he said.
During his three day visit to Tamenglong, Ram Mohan inspected the working of various district government offices, met with public leaders and listened to their grievances, in addition to holding meetings with officials of the district administration.
While meeting with Ram Mohan at the office of the DC, Tamenglong yesterday, public leaders of the district reportedly pressed strongly for improvement of the state roads passing through the district headquarters, provision of sanitation facilities for the Tamenglong bazar area, and opening of science stream at the graduate level at Tamenglong College.
Ram Mohan on his part assured that their demands would be looked into.
During his meetings with district level officials, Ram Mohnn emphasized the need for improvement of roads and power and water supply facilities in the district.
In particular, the advisor instructed the district officials to take steps for the improvement of the Khongsang-Tamenglong, Tamenglong-Tousem, and Tamei-Tunning roads, giving them a time frame of two months.
Ram Mohan also asked the district officials to ensure that the Rs 1 crore released by the state government for infrastructural development in the districts was properly utilized in the priority sectors.
The officials in the meantime urged that the power transmitter at the Nungba Rengpang power transmission centre should be upgraded to a 130 kV one.
Ram Mohan has promised to discuss the matter with power department officials.
He also gave instructions to the officials to expedite the implementation of water supply schemes at the district sub divisional headquarters.
