The first ever political conference under the banner 'Public Consultation on Kuki Movement, was successfully held at T Waichong, reports our correspondent.
The public consultation program organized by Kuki Students' Organization, Twilang Block and sponsored by Kuki Inpi Twilang Lhang.
The programme was also attended by various civil bodies of the Kuki community and leaders of the Kuki National Front apart from village chiefs, Church leaders and student leaders.
UPF spokesperson Aaron Kipgen, who is also the general secretary of KNF, gave a detail report on the political talks involving the Government of India, Government of Manipur, UPF and KNO.
He reiterated that separate administration for the Kukis, Kuki State surfaced as early as 1960 when Kuki National Assembly (KNA) submitted the first memorandum on behalf of all the Kukis to the first Prime Minister of India asking for Kuki State.
However, on June 15, 2016, the issue of the Kuki/Zo people was first deliberated by the Government of India with the Government of Manipur in the presence of the UPF and KNO leaders who represented the Kuki community.
He also recalled the discontentment of UPF and KNO when process for political dialogue was delayed for nearly 8 years since the signing of tripartite Suspension of Operation Agreement with Government of India and Government of Manipur in August 2008 .
While illustrating the reports of the political talks, Aaron Kipgen also highlighted the commitment of the Narendra Modi Government in solving the issues of the Kukis and conveyed UPF sincere faith on the Government of India in solving the vexed political issue of the Kuki people amicably.
