The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) is set to launch a fresh drive against illegal immigrants in the State from October 2 and along the National Highways.

Since then, the JCILPS has been demanding a regulation like the Inner Line Permit/Eastern Bengal Frontal Regulation Act to safeguard and protect the indigenous people of the State.
It was during this series of movements that Sapam Robinson laid down his life to be anointed the title Lamjing Meira, he recalled and added that the Manipur People Bill 2018 was passed by the State Assembly.
He further said that Manipur Peoples Bill was passed on July 23, 2018 but till today the Bill is yet to get an assent from the President falling short of it being enacted to protect the people.
It is important for the people of the State that the said Bill be enacted to save the indigenous people, he said and added that the next phase of movement is to check the continuous influx of non-locals into the State.
From October 2, there will be checks along the National Highways, including the Imphal-Jiribam line to detect the entry of non-locals and this will continue, he added.
He said that JCILPS along with locals will check whether the non-locals have come in illegally without any valid documents or not, he said and added that drives will also be carried out to check non-locals in different parts of the State.
Those found without any valid documents will be sent back to their home States, he said.
Workers brought in for construction works by firms will also be checked.
The JCILPS leader then urged contractors, firms and all concerned to make sure that the workers they hire from outside the State arrive with legal documents.
If anyone is found violating this basic norms, then the matter would be reported to the State Police and the Labour Department to take appropriate action.
JCILPS has also come across cases of efforts being made to include non-locals in the updation process of the electoral rolls, he said appealed to the Block Level officers to thoroughly check the list.
