The 12th Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day organised jointly by Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) and National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) was observed at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here today.
The function was attented by Phanjoubam Shakhileima, President of (AMKIL); Sunil Karam, President of (NIPCO); R.Chandra Haomei, Advisor, Zeliangrong Union, Md.Rahimuddin, Secretary, Human Resource Development Organisation and Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, Ex-President of United Committee of Manipur (UCM) as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Karam, President of (NIPCO) said that many tourists both foreigners and from the domestic visited the state to meet Irom Sharmila Chanu who has been fasting from the last 12 years protesting to repeal the draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act rather than the beautiful flora and fauna of the state.
"Even though tourists want to visit the state's famous tourist spots, Sendra and the Siroi Lily, security force camps in the region have created a fear psychosis among the visitors.
Moreover, the number of security forces personnel camping in the state is also a matter of concern", he added.
While stating that the people of both the valley and the hills need to get together frequently, R.Chandra Haomei noted that "Mera Haochongba" is the only occasion where people from both the side meet.
Apart from cultural dance performed, many civil organisations and leaders participated in the function.
