Imphal, July 28 2014 :
Altogether seven Government doctors who are practising in private hospitals/clinics have been pulled up, Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungza-thang Tonsing informed the House today in response to a call attention motion raised by MLA L Ibomcha.
Replying to the call attention motion about the growing conflicts between healthcare providers and public, Phung-zathang said that out of the seven Government doctors who were pulled up for practising in private hospitals and clinics, one has been suspended while the rest are under process.
Claiming that the Government has been keeping a close watch in order to check Government doctors working in private hospitals/clinics, Phungzathang informed that investigation is on to find out pharmacies which do not possess licence.
Efforts are also on compile charts with details of the number of beds, number of doctors, number of instruments/equipment available in every hospital.
Ultrasound machines and baby warmers have been provided to most of the hospitals.
Ibomcha remarked that majority of the people have grievances against public healthcare system and people's faith in Government hospitals is fast eroding.
Establishment of a number of clinical laboratories around Government hospitals looked like their proprietors have tacit understanding with the Government, Ibomcha alleged.
