'Lamphelpat water bodies to be developed for Rs 6.27 cr'

Imphal, August 27 2013:
Irrigation and Flood Control (IFC) Minister Ngamthang Haokip has announced that the water bodies of Lamphelpat would be developed at an estimated project cost Rs.6.27 crores in order to control the degrading ecosystems and prevent frequent inundation in the area.
He was talking to media persons on the sideline of inspecting the inundated quarters, offices and other places of Lamphelpat here today.
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip was accompanied by MLA Z Kikhanbou Newmai and officials of IFCD during the inspection.
He said that a new project called "Development of Water Bodies and Improving Drainage System of Lamphelpat" would be implemented soon by the State Government.

A meeting of Public Investment Board (PIB) presided over by the Chief Secretary was held yesterday in this regard.
The meeting resolved to send the project proposal to the Ministry of Water Resources, Ngamthang noted.
The Minister expressed confidence that the project would be successful under the initiative of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
More than 250 acres of water bodies would be developed under the project.
The project would begin from the year 2013-14 and it would be completed by the year 2016-17, the IFC Minister assured.
He further said that a new water supply scheme would also be set up at Lamphelpat in consultation with the PHE Department.
The Lamphelpat project would also include cleaning of Nambul River from Iroishemba till Thong Nambonbi.
The project would bring relief to the residents of Lamphelpat, Ngamthang added.
Meanwhile, officials of IFCD said that enough materials have been stocked up to control floods.
