Lamka, July 27 2013 :
The Kuki Students' Organisation Churachandpur has condemned the alleged torture of Henkhopao, Chief of Joujangtek Village, Nungba sub-division, Tamenglong by villagers of Nungsai over a land dispute and appealed the State Home Minister under whose constituency both the warring villages are located to solve the issue without any partiality.
Alleging that Henkhopau was dragged out from his Gypsy, beaten black and blue, by about 52 Nungsai villager who were led by one Pouchadai on July 25 around 12.30pm, the KSO said as a result of the torture, the former was hospitalized with serious condition.
The KSO also said it was appalled by the manner in which OC of Lamphel police opted to remain a mute spectator while the entire incident unfolds with the Fast Track Court Complex, Imphal.
The OC has failed as a law enforcer for letting might overtook justice inside the complex, it added.
Identifying the destruction of Sugarcane and Bean farms that belong to Joujangtek villagers by Nungshai villagers on August 21 last as the main cause of the conflict, the KSO alleged that recurrence of the incidents despite the signing of a peace bond by the two villagers under SDO, Khoupum was telling enough of the bias nature shown by the DC of Temenglong.
Appealing the Home minister Gaikhanngam to settle the issue amicably, the KSO warned, if minority Kuki chiefs in Tamenglong are not protected, the reaction could be felt in Churachandpur where Zeliangrong chiefs are the minority.
The KSO Churachandpur will not remain a silent spectator if the concerned authority do not solve the matter in an appropriate way and if any untoward incident erupted the concerned authority will take the responsibility, it added.
