Gover-nor of Nagaland Nikhil Kumar has expressed his regret on the failure to settle the Naga political issue before the ensuing Assembly elections.
Nagaland goes to the poll on February 23 .
Addressing the Republic Day celebration in the State capital Kohima on Saturday, Nikhil Kumar said it was a big regret that Naga solution could not be brought about before the State Assembly elections.
He appealed to all sections of the Nagas to continue working for the peraceful settlement of the Naga political issue.
Nikhil Kumar pointed out that in spite of the best efforts put up by the political parties, social organisations and groups no solution could be brought about before the election date was annopunced.
Meanwhile, two forces are pulling the Naga society at the moment.
When the government machineries are working in full swing for the ensuing polls, the Naga civil societies, especially the Naga Hoho is unceasingly pressing the Central government to defer the polls.
The Naga Hoho has been advocating that the vexed Naga issue be settled prior to the holding of the state assembly elections.
On the other hand, political parties in Nagaland are campaigning in full swing.
Names of candidates have been started announcing.
Group meetings and local gatherings are being held in the localities.
At the moment, Naga People's Front (NPF) and the Indian National Congress (INC) are considered the two main rivals with one party thinks the other the deadliest in the February 23 polls.
Nagaland has sixty seats.
The Congress is on the all out effort to unseat the ruling NPF which has been reigning the state since the year 2003 with Neiphiu Rio on the kursi.
Meanwhile, the factor of former chief ministers SC Jamir and KL Chisi is very much felt this time round in the poll bound Nagaland.
Reports speculated that the two former chief ministers are giving their best energy to overthrow the ruling NPF regime.
