NAB busts brown sugar factory

A team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) Manipur, with assistance from ANJUMAN members busted a cland-estine brown sugar factory at Ushoipokpi Sangomsang yesterday night, and seized a huge quantity of brown sugar worth more than Rs 25 crore.
Displaying the seized drugs along with the arrested persons before media persons at NAB office complex today evening, W Basu SP, NAB, Manipur (who is also the PRO of Manipur Police) said that yesterday night, acting on specific information regarding pre- sence of a brown sugar factory at Ushoipokpi Sangom- sang area, a team of NAB Manipur, under the command of Th Brinda (Additional SP NAB) and led by Sh Chandrakumar (OC NAB) carried out a raid at some suspected houses under his (Basu) overall supervision, with the assistance of ANJUMAN Islah-E Muaarsharh members.

During the raid, the team busted a clandestine brown sugar factory at Ushoipokpi Sangomsang and a large quantity of drugs (morphine) at various stages of production along with arms and ammunition were seized.
The SP continued that yesterday's raid was carried out after careful surveillance of a suspect and his activities over a period of time, and added that during the raid, two persons were arrested by the police, including the owner of the brown sugar factory identified as Md Jane Alam (30) s/o (L) Md Zaheruddin of Lilong Ushoipokpi Sangomsang Suktu Karong and his relative Md Sadam Hussain (29) s/o Md Abdul Hussain of Lilong Ushoipokpi Makha Leikai.
The SP further said that during the raid, 25.5 kilograms of brown sugar, 145 litres of concentrated morphine solution, 2 kilograms of Ammonium Chloride, 9 kilograms of lime, one wooden pressing machine, one weighing machine, one hand cash counter, three single barrel guns, 9 live cartridges and Rs 3,650 in cash were seized by the team and added that primary findings of Forensic Science Laboratory, Pangei indicated presence of morphine in all the samples seized during the raid.
Announcing that the seized drug items are worth more than Rs 25 crore, he said that a case has been registered against the arrested persons under ND&PS Act by NAB Manipur.
They were produced before Court and taken into police custody remand for further investigation, he added.
