Imphal, August 26 2015: Assam Rifles claimed to have foiled an ambush attempt on AR troops on Aug 21.PRO of IGAR (S) in a statement said that UGs attempted to ambush a column of Assam Rifles troops who were on patrol near Molnghat in Chandel district.

As the patrol approached the ambush site, they were fired upon by the UGs followed by two IEDs.

The militants' fire was promptly countered by the SF patrol.

The militants, however, managed to escape, taking advantage of rugged terrain and bad weather.

Two soldiers who received minor injuries were promptly evacuated to Military Hospital, Leimakhong and are now out of danger.

Later on, when the area was searched, Assam Rifles recovered eight more IEDs along the track and thus averted a major tragedy as they could have caused harm to innocent civilians as well, the PRO said.

The UGs will plan more such indiscriminate attacks to harm the lives of innocent civilian inhabitants of the border areas as well, it added.
