Uproar mars tender process at PWD

A violent uproar erupted inside PWD complex here today as officials were preparing to open sealed tender bids related to contract works for development of different sections of National Highways.
As scheduled earlier, online technical bids invited for development of different highway sections should be opened at 2 pm today.
Bidders should submit documents (hard copies) related with Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) and tender fee by 1 pm.
However, a group of contractors blocked another group of contractors from submitting documents related to EMD and tender fee which resulted in a tense confrontation between the two sides.
However, the situation was somehow brought under control by security forces deployed inside the PWD complex and additional forces who rushed in from outside by the time media persons reached there.
It was later learnt that the confrontation took place in front of the office of the Additional Chief Engineer-II Kh Temba.
Kh Temba said that technical bids were invited on October 7 this year for construction of Torbung-Nachou Panthung, Nachou Panthung-Malom and Malom Yaingangpokpi sections of NH-150 and Sekmaijin-Kakching Lamkhai section of Mayai Lambi (NH-137 -A) .
Estimated costs for the four road construction works are Rs 78.13 crore, Rs 87.37 crore, Rs 87.98 crore and Rs 18.26 crore respectively.
The tender bids were earlier scheduled to be opened online on November 14 but it was postponed to November 25 on account of the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
These road sections should be constructed with funds sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
All bidders should submit documents related with EMD and tender fee in hard copies by 1 pm of December 5.The tender bids would be opened by 2 pm of the same day.
Bidders can also submit necessary documents by speed post or courier services, Temba added.
