Imphal, September 25 2012: Discovering the presence of UG cadres in Nungaipokpi area of Imphal East district, troops of 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector launched operation in the area and apprehended one PLA cadre on September 24, said a PRO IGAR (S) release that identified as captive as Skanta alias Mutum Singh (40) s/o Tomba Singh of Yambem.

The arrested person has been handed over to Yairipok police station.

In yet another incident, troops of 28 Assam Rifles intercepted an IED from Moidangpok area today.

According to the PRO release, foot patrol of the Unit, while carrying out search of the area, spotted a white colour box lying on the road side.

Upon close inspection, the bomb turned out to be an IED fitted with timer device.

The area was cordoned off by the troops and Bomb disposal squad of the Imphal West police informed.

Later they destroyed the IED in situ, added the release.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and 15 AR arrested a cadre of a KCP faction identified as Altaf Khan alias Abo (23) s/o Rafiuddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Dam from Tanjeng area on September 23.According to Thoubal Police statement, one 9mm pistol, five rounds of ammunition, one mobile handset, a demand letter of the outfit signed by one SS finance secretary, Tomthil Meitei and two SIMs were recovered from the possession of the arrested individual.

He also reportedly confessed his involvement in the blast at NRL Pump at Thoubal Haokha on June 5 last, it added.
