UG activists held, boy rescued

Together with arrest of two activists of the proscribed PREPAK (Pro), a young boy who was being taken along with them have been rescued by Thoubal police commandos.
According to a statement issued by Thoubal SP Dr Ak Jhaljit, Thoubal commandos launched a rescue operation at Pallel Bazar at the instruction of Police Headquarters to check kidnapping and recruitment of children by UG groups.
In the course of the operation, a young boy was rescued along with arrest of two PREPAK (Pro) activists last morning at about 7.20 .
The arrested PREPAK (Pro) activists have been identified as Shamurailatpam Jail Sharma (27) s/o late Gopendra of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak and Nongmaithem Sandip (37) s/o late Narendra of Kakching Phoushupat Leikai.
Another source informed that Jail Sharma is a VDF personnel posted at Sajiwa Central Jail under Imphal West District Police.
One Maruti van (MN-01X/0856) and mobile phone were recovered from their possession.
During preliminary investigation, the duo disclosed that they were working under one self styled Captain Ngakpa of PREPAK (Pro)'s recruitment cell.
They were promised Rs 10,000 per child and the rescued boy was to be handed over at Moreh but they were arrested at Pallel on the way to Moreh.
Following their arrest, Khundrakpam Sanjoy alias Thoiba (16) s/o Muhindro of Khangabok Part III who was being taken to Moreh by the duo was rescued.
During another search, another PREPAK (Pro) cadre identified as RK Gandhi alias Santa (32) s/o late Pakasana of Kakching Phoushupat Leikai was pulled up at about 10 am yesterday.
One mobile handset and three demand letters of PREPAK (Pro) signed by S/S Captain Ngakpa were recovered from his possession, conveyed
