Imphal, April 24 2019:
MPCC spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami has said that the statement made by Chief Minister N Biren to take money from other political parties but vote for the BJP, is a blatant violation of the election Model Code of Conduct and added that MPCC has already filed a complaint to the Election Commission of India.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan today, the MPCC spokesperson said that Biren made the statement during an election campaign for BJP candidate Dr RK Ranjan at Kwakeithel Moirangpurel on April 16 which was held under the aegis of BJP Keishamthong Mandal.
He continued that MPCC has already filed a complaint to the ECI on April 17 seeking appropriate actions against the CM for violating the MCC.
If the ECI fails to take up proper action, necessary preparations have been made to approach the law Court, he added.
He also expressed that during the last few days, Congress has come are under strict scrutiny while the BJP has been left free to do as it pleases.
Hareshwar Goswami continued that on April 18, just after the election, an unfortunate incident occurred during a discussion programme of a popular TV channel.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered at City PS, however, no actions have been taken up till date, he lamented.
Further claiming that all the areas demanded for a repoll fell under the jurisdiction of the CM, Minister and MLAs of the BJP party, the Congress spokesperson said that it is extremely shameful that 5 polling stations which fall under Assembly Constituency of the CM have been directed for a repoll.
The CM, who is also in charge of Home, should resign on moral grounds, he added.
On the other hand, MPCC secretary S Jiten alleged that the BJP MLAs and Ministers blatantly violated the MCC in connection with both the Outer and Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency elections.
Going for election campaign in other areas other than one own's Kendra is against the Representation of People's Act.
Necessary complaint has been made to the ECI regarding such activities, he added.
