Bodies comdemn Chandel incident

Condemnations are still pouring in against molestation of a Manipuri film actress and firing on two other actors by a senior cadre of NSCN (IM) during a musical concert held at Chandel.
Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State Council condemned the incident in a meeting held today.
The meeting demanded that the culprit Lt Col Livingstone must be punished according to the law of the land.
The meeting also condemned excesses meted out security personnel to bandh supporters.
Maintaining that suspension of six police personel including an ASI and five VDF personnel would not serve any purpose, the meeting observed that high ranking police officers of the district must be punished.
The party also appealed the general public to maintain calm and not to instigate communal tension at this critical juncture.
The party further appealed all concerned to suspend the ongoing bandh for some time in view of the coming Christmas festival.

Condemning the incident, ACOAM-Lup Kangleipak questioned how long the State Government would give free hand to NSCN (IM) .
The social body alleged that NSCN (IM) has been indulging in highway looting and many inhuman and human rights violations acts.
The body also questioned why the State Government is unable to arrest the culprit cadre till date.
Pledging support to the ongoing agitation, ACOAM-Lup also demanded that the culprit be punished at the earliest.
Citizens Welfare Front (SWF), Kanglei Ima Lup, Women Welfare Organisation, Joint Non-Voluntary Organisation, Kakching, Kangleipak Youth Social Progressive Association, Muslim Advocates' Legal Services Organisation, Greater Hatta Youth Club, All Manipur Muslim Organisations Co-ordinating Committee, United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation and Bashikhong Dramatic Association also condemned the Chandel incident.
