ORS week celebration inaugurated

Imphal, July 23 2014: The inaugural function of ORS week during July 23-29 with the theme "Ensure ORS Prescription in Full Description" organised by the Pediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) and National Neonatology Forum, Manipur State Branch was on Wednesday commenced at School of Nursing Porompat, Khabeisoi.

The chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, the President of the Pediatric Association of Manipur Dr Shyamkumar Laishram and the President of the National Neonatology Forum, Manipur State Branch Dr Th Nabachandra have graced the celebration as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kameshore Singh, secretary PAN has focused on the importance of ORS in Diarrhoea.

He further elaborated on the extensive use of ORS such as in hospitals, as a supplement for school going children.

Dr Nabachandra mentioned that ORS is one of the best discoveries of the twentieth century and it saves thousands of lives despite of its cheap price.

He also laid emphasis on the proper and right use of ORS � which is to control dehydration but sometimes, it is misused in social function and traditional fairs.

ORS is applicable if a child suffers for excessive vomiting and constipation but it becomes ineffective if the person is drowsy.

Dr Ng Bijoy gave a creative inspiration that a full description of ORS is a must in the present health conscious world.

He further said that the role of ORS comes in because a child is vulnerable and prone to Diarrhoea and it not properly intervened at the right time.

Seeing the worse condition of the road leading to the School of Nursing, he promised that he will take up steps to improve the road condition.

Dr Shyamkumar, president of the function spoke on the importance of ORS as a life saving drink of the twentieth century.
