Imphal, January 23 2017:
As in the previous years, the Coordination Committee (CorCom), Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) and the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent, (ULFA -I) have called for a total shut down in the entire Western South East Asia (WESEA) region on Republic Day (January 26) .
A joint statement issued by the rebel groups asserted that the region should collectively boycott the Indian Republic Day 2017 .
They appealed to all the people of the WESEA to boycott the Republic Day celebrations by staying at home safely and thereby support the total shut down from 9 pm of January 25 till 6 pm of January 26 .
"India's celebration of Republic Day in WESEA is a stark reminder of alleged colonization of the region by India, we ought to dissociate ourselves from it", reads the statement.
India has been using various nefarious plots to perpetuate its forcible occupation of Western South East Asia (WESEA).
One of them is the dirty old trick of pitting one ethnic group against another.
By sowing seeds of communal hatred among the people of the region, specially in Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya, they have been trying to shatter the age-old harmonious fabric of society.
Underhand dealings of New Delhi with some armed and unarmed groups to sabotage the liberation struggle have been increasing day by day.
By encouraging parochial sectarian agenda of some communities, Indian Government has been trying to upset the peaceful co-existence of numerous ethnic groups of the region, alleged the statement.
"The venom of communal hatred is so widespread in Manipur that there is the danger of igniting communal clashes any day if we are caught in the trap of the enemy", it cautioned.
Another oft-repeated dirty trick is the use of surrendered militants in many shady activities in order to derail the liberation movement.
The rebel groups went on to ask how the people of WESEA can, which was never a part of India, expect anything good from this country, which has no qualms about unleashing brutality on its own citizens.
"Regaining our lost sovereignty by defeating the evil designs of India is the only way to a dignified existence of the people of WESEA", they added.
