Imphal, October 22 2012:
Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing has announced that a new nursing college would be opened in the State by the second week of November.
He made this announcement at a foundation stone laying ceremony of a new building for a State/regional Family Welfare Training Centre inside the complex of RD Wing at Lamphelpat today.
The new institutional building for which foundation stone was laid today would be constructed under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with 100 per cent funding by the Government of India.
Speaking at the function, Phungzathang Tonsing stated that the Government of India has already given its approval to open a new nursing college in Manipur.
Apart from giving its consent to construct the institutional building, the Government of India has sanctioned Rs 8.7 crores as first instalment.
The problem caused by absence of any building for giving training to in-service employees and medical professionals can be effectively addressed once the new building is constructed.
In view of the high consumption of tobacco products in Mizoram, the Government of India has approved establishment of a cancer hospital in the neighbouring State.
Noting that medical professionals of the State are more talented as compared to other North Eastern States, Phungzathang Tonsing appealed to all medical professionals to work with sincerity and dedication.
Calling upon all to make Manipuri society a healthy State, the Minister appealed to all concerned to enhance health care services in the State.
Expressing his displeasure over non-completion of food testing laboratory till date although construction work started in 2008-09 inside RD Wing complex, Phungzathang assured that all efforts would be put in to complete the building construction work after finding out the work agency which was executing the same work.
Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Ram Muivah suggested that the institutional building be constructed after consulting experts by adding architectural designs which would reflect the culture and traditions of Manipur with due emphasis on the qualitative aspect.
The function was also attended by Family Welfare Director N Achouba and other high ranking officials of the department.
