Imphal, September 22 2012:
Demanding repoll in 10/3/1 polling station of Mongshangei Gram Panchayat a memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister this afternoon.
A section of Mongshangei citizens alleging electoral malpractices during the recent Panchayat elections staged sit-in-protest at Keishampat Junction community hall after which they tried to march to the CM's official residence to air their complaints.
Interestingly, no security force personnel could be sighted either accompanying the protestors or trying to stop the placard/banner holding people during their march from Keishampat Junction, across the Raj Bhavan and upto the traffic point near the Imphal Post Office.
While no police team was visible during their nearly 500 metres long march, a lone police personnel could be seen blocking the protestors' way at the middle of the road near the traffic point.
Arrival of more police re-enforcement, however, resulted in the protestors being herded towards the Post Office end of the highway from where a delegation was allowed to air their grievances to the CM in the form of a memorandum.
Prior to marching towards the CM's bungalow, a sit-in-demonstration was staged at the Keishampat Junction community hall from around 10 am.
The protest demonstration was organised to denounce excess number of votes found to have been polled in 10/3/1 polling station of mongshangei Gram Panchayat contrary to the official figure enlisted in the electoral roll or announced by the presiding officer at the end of the polling hour, said pradhan candidate Sinam Pradeep Singh.
Contending that 705 votes were found casts compared to only 701 enlisted in the electoral roll, Pradeep demanded repoll.
