Rickshaw driver thrashed

Imphal, June 22 2016:
A rickshaw driver was severely thrashed over a trivial argument over fare payment at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai today.
Relating the incident to media persons, the victim Kangabam Angotombi (45) of Charangpat Muslim Bazar said a woman came up to him at around 9.30 am asking him to take her to Keishampat Thiyam Leikai.
Angotombi drove the woman from the cycle rickshaw parking at Keishampat Lairembi Mamang to Keishampat Thiyam Leikai.
On arriving at her destination, the woman took out a 10 rupee note and gave it to the driver.
Angotombi said the fare was too low and asked her to give him Rs 20 .
The woman asked Angotombi to wait and went into her house.
A little while later a man who identified himself as a human rights activist came out and started an argument with Angotombi over the fare.
He allegedly asked Angotombi to take the 10 rupee note or leave the place without taking the fare.
When Angotombi complained, the man allegedly pulled him against a nearby wall and punched him hard.
"He also tried to strangle me with his hands.
There were two man watching the whole scene at the side but they said nothing", he said.
After a short while the woman and came out and the fight stopped.
"They made me change my blood stained clothes, washed them and returned them to me", he said.
The victim has filed a complaint with the Imphal West District police today.
