Once the railway connection from Jiribam to Imphal is commissioned, there will not be much effect of economic blockades or bandhs and the State will become one of the business hubs of South East Asian countries.
This was stated by Union Minister of State (Railways) Rajen Gohain during a press conference held at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of BJP Manipur Pradesh this evening.
Rajen Gohain stated that he is visiting Manipur to present a detailed report of the railway project from Jiribam to Imphal and also regarding the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
It has been witnessed that BJP is in good position to win the election and form the next State Government.
He said that the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal Railway project was taken up in 2008 and soon after it was declared a National project in view of its immense significance.
Around 12.5 Kms of the railway line has been completed and inspected by experts.
There are 45 tunnels and more than 100 major and minor bridges along the railway line from Jiribam to Imphal.
Till January this year, Rs 595 crore has been invested for the railway project.
One of the tallest bridges and the longest railway tunnel would be witnessed after completion of the Jiribam-Tupul section of the railway project and it is expected to be commissioned before December 2018 .
This would be followed by Tupul-Imphal section on December 2019, Rajen Gohain informed.
Once the railway line is commissioned, hardship faced by people in the State due to bandhs and blockades along National Highways would be eased considerably.
However, the railway project could not achieve much progress during the last three months or so due to the economic blockade.
Survey for Imphal-Moreh railway line has been completed and the construction work will be started within a short period.
He claimed that whatever developmental changes seen in the State are is due to the Centre's NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Look East Policy has now been changed to Act East Policy by giving special preference and importance to the Northeastern States.
He also appealed to the people of Manipur to vote for BJP so as to for bring speedy development in the State as already seen in his home State.
