Sahitya Akademi Award for Kshetri Bir

The Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi has selected Kshetri Bir's novel Nangbu Ngaibada for this year's Sahitya Akademi award.
Kshetri Bir is the son of Khsetrimayum Kundra and Nongmaithem Ningol Kshetrimayum ongbi Henoubi.
He was born on July 22, 1944 at Kakching Sumak Leikai.
Even though he was born in a poor family, he worked hard and completed MA BEd and Sahitya Lankar in Hindi.
After supporting his family for many years as a teacher in a private school, he was approved as a government teacher in 1980.He retired in 2006 as a Headmaster of Machi Government High School.
So far, he had published seven books which were Where is our living? (1975), Lotluba Chithi (1999), Hinglambani Ei Magidamak (2000), Phirep (2002), Ei (2005), Nangbu Ngaibada (2009) and Wari Libiyu Pupu (Children's tale, 2010) .
Kshetri Bir had recieved Thongam Udhav Ningshing Mana-2003 for Phirep, Dr Ambedkar Fellowship Award-2005 for Lotluba Chithi, Writers' Association Literary Award-2005 for Phirep, Manipur State Kala Akademi Award-2008 for Ei, BM Novel Award-2008 for Ei, Dineshwori Ningshing Mana-2010 for Nangbu Ngaibada and Yendrembam Surlata Purashkar-2011 for Nangbu Ngaibada.
Speaking to reporters, Kshetri Bir said that he could not help stopping his tears when he was informed that he was selected for the award.
He expressed his gratitude to the literary organisations and activists in the state for their support.
