Body brought home, JAC, CM strike agreement

After the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Sarif Ahmad at NJP, West Bengal and Chief Minister O Ibobi came to an understanding, the corpse of Sarif Ahmad is set to be claimed by the family.
Along with that, the JAC's proposed agitation has also been suspended.
Earlier, Sarif's body was brought to Imphal by air at about 1.50 pm today.
The corpse was handed over to the Government of Assam by Government of West Bengal which in turn handed it over to Government of Manipur.
Police have deposited the corpse in JNIMS morgue.
Speaking to media persons after their meeting with the Chief Minister at Manipur Press Club this evening, the JAC's convenor Md Zakir Hussain said that the Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the JAC's demands and assured to fulfil the same.
As the Government of Assam has already decided to go in for a CBI enquiry into the incident in which Sarif Ahmad and others were killed, the matter was dropped from today's meeting.

Nevertheless, the State Cabinet would take a decision and urge the Centre to institute a special investigation into the incident, Zakir quoted the Chief Minister as saying.
The Government agreed on providing compensation together with a Government job to the next of kin of Sarif Ahmad.
Ibobi also assured to take up tighter security measures for Manipuri students and professionals staying in different States of India, said JAC chairman Md Abdul Helim Shah.
Subsequently, it was decided to claim the corpse and perform last rites of the deceased student, and also to suspend the JAC's proposed agitation.
Today's meeting was also attended by Agriculture Minister Md Nasir, Chief Secretary DS Poonia and DGP Y Joykumar.
Sarif Ahmad of Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi who was reading in MA 1st semester at Cotton College, Guwahati was among the four people who were thrown out from a moving train and killed at New Jalpaipuri, West Bengal on August 18 .
