CorCom announces total shutdown
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, January 21 2023: The CorCom has announced 18 hours total shutdown from January 25 midnight till 6 pm of January 26.A statement issued by the CorCom publicity committee alleged that the people of Manipur ought to see January 26 as 'Repressive Day' even though India celebrates the same day as Republic Day.

The Republic Day celebration is an event which displays the Indian military might and shows to the world that the history of independent Manipur has been put to an end and Delhi has taken control of the political and socio-economic life of Manipur, it alleged.

The Republic Day celebration only shows that the colonial yoke has been handed over from Britain to India, the CorCom alleged and appealed to all the people of Manipur (Kangleipak) to stay away from the Republic Day celebration.

The CorCom says that it boycotts the Republic Day. After being a 'Kingdom of Congress India' for 54 years, India has now been transformed into a Bharatvarsha, a 'Kingdom of Sangh Parivar', it alleged.

Even before no democratic Government was formed in post-British India, the first Constitutional Amendment Actwaspassedinl951 through which the clause 'reasonable restriction' was inserted in Article 19 (Right to Freedom of Speech), the CorCom said.

It alleged that the Government of India has been using this 'reasonable restriction' as an instrument of suppressing the masses by indulging in 'unreasonable restrictions'.

Article 356 which enables the Government of India to deprive States of political powers and Article 19's 'reasonable restriction' testify that India is not a republic but a 'repressive country', it alleged.

Even though Article 21 guarantees right to personal liberty, the same right can be suppressed by the Sedition and Preventive Detention Law, it said.

Although it has been almost 74 years since India achieved independence, India currently occupies 107th position in the Global Hunger Index, out of 121 countries.

In the Liberal Democratic Index (LDI) and Electoral Democracy Index, India occupies 93rd and 100th positions, out of 179 countries, the CorCom said.

Being an 'electoral autocracy', the terms 'equality' and 'liberty' are quite alien in India, it alleged.

Alleging that India believes in hegemony and majoritarianism, it appealed to all the people not to put any trust in India's policies and administrative system.

As the Government of India is vigorously following a policy of 'One Nation, One Language', there is a strong apprehension that the indigenous people of Manipur whose total population is very little may be assimilated into mainland Indians, it said.

The CorCom asserted that it would hold political dialogue with the Government of India only on the issue of Manipur's sovereignty and independence.

It informed that the total shutdown would be relaxed for religious functions, medical services and emergency services.
