One more JE case detected

The authority concerned in asso-ciation with local clubs have started taking up preventive measures after a Japanese Encephalitis case has been detected at Tera Lukram Leirak in Imphal West district.
Around 400 mosquito nets were treated with mosquito repellent chemicals by volunteers of Lukram Leirak Youth Club and YDO, Lukram Leirak under the supervision DMO Imphal West Dr N Thoinao.
A 70-year-old woman of the locality, who was rushed to RIMS hospital on September 7, has been tested positive for JE.
Local sources said that her condition is improving.
It may be mentioned that an 11-year-old boy from Tamenglong, who was staying in a boarding at Irom Meijrao, Imphal West district, had already been tested positive for JE.
Preventive measures were taken up and awareness programmes conducted at the village by the concerned authority.
An official said that outbreak of vector borne di- seases like JE, Dengue and Malaria normally occurs during rainy season.
He said that preventive measures like fogging are being taken up at affected areas.
The official also urged the to keep surroundings neat, use mosquito repellents and not to keep stagnant water.
Three days of fever followed by delirium is a symptom of JE, he said.
Saying that the disease could be easily cured if treatment starts at the early stage, the official said that free JE testing is being conducted at JNIMS hospital.
