Arrested man hidden : UNLF

Imphal, February 19 2015: Major Keithellakpam Chilheiba alias Nabachandra of UNLF who is now a Bangladesh citizen was arrested by a combined team of Indian intelligence agents who were clad in civilian fatigues and Bangladesh police who were in clad in black-coloured attires from his place of residence located under Mohammadpur police station in Dhaka at around 10 pm (Bangladesh local time) of February 11 .

Family members were told that Chilheiba alias Nabachandra would be brought back within three days but no information has been given till date about his whereabouts even though it has been more than eight days since he was pulled up.

It is a clear case of arbitrary arrest and detention in total contravention of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and Covenant on Political and Civil Rights, said a press release issued by the outfit's director-in-charge M Sak-hen.

Major K Chilheiba joined the UNLF in 1992 .

He was taken to some place by Indian intelligence agents on the pretext of talking about something but his whereabouts is being kept a closely guarded secret.

Except for the news reports published in two local dailies on February 17 and 18, nothing has been said about the arrest of Major Chilheiba, the outfit noted.

It appealed to all human right defenders/groups and civil society organizations to ensure Major Chilheiba gets legal aid under International Court of Justice and his whereabouts disclosed to the public.
