Students burn down school properties

Imphal, December 18 2012:
Demanding the replacement of the incumbent Principal In-charge of N Tomchou Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal, students of the school burned down several school properties today.
Meanwhile, a student was hospitalised at the impact of a powerful water that suddenly streamed out from water pipe of the fire tender.
The students have been urging the authority concerned to effect the transfer of the Principal In-charge, Hijam Ranjit, who has been serving as the Principal since 2011 .
The students cited mal-administration and mis-management on the part of the Principal.
According to an order issued by the Education (S) on Nov 26, former Principal in-charge of the school, Kebi was appointed to replace the incumbent principal.
However, Kebi was transferred from the school again on Dec 15 and Ranjit has been reinstated as the Principal In-charge.
The students organised a sit-in protest against the re-appointment of Ranjit, whose administration is doubted by the students, as the principal of the school.
As a part of the protest today, students burned down several school furniture.
Personnel of Mayang Imphal PS rushed to the protest site to control the agitating students.
Later, the police called fire service personnel to douse the flames.
The agitating students obstructed the police and fire personnel from fighting the fire.
Amidst the confrontation, a sudden and powerful flow of water from the pipe of the fire tender injured a girl student.
