Nongmaithem Pahari remembered

Popular singer late Nongmaithem Pahari was fondly remembered today on his fifth death anniversary at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.
The commemorative function organised by the Nongmaithem Pahari Memorial Trust was graced by Lalit Kala Akademi awardee Thoidingjam Tombi as chief guest and president of the Trust B Jayentakumar Sharma as president.
Life time achievement award for preserving and promoting Manipuri modern music was presented to Aheibam Budhachandra at the memorial function.
The award carries Rs 25,000 in cash, a citation and a shawl.
Speaking at the occasion, Thoidingjam Tomba said that it is time to include music and visual art in college syllabus like dance in order to promote and develop Manipuri music.
Many other speakers lauded the contribution of late Pahari in the field of Manipuri modern music who was also known as King of Manipuri Modern Music.

Winners of music competition organised in connection with the death anniversary function of Pahari were also felicitated today.
The first winner of the competition, O Romen of Thanga Lawai was awarded Rs 20,000 in cash and a certificate, Chungkham Sangita of Thongju Part who won second position was awarded Rs 15,000 and a certificate and third prize winner H Bidyalakshmi of Keirenphabi Mayai Leikai got Rs 10,000 and a certificate.
Seven other singers were also given Rs 500 each as consolation prizes.
