Imphal, March 18 2021:
Three LPG tanker drivers were robbed of all the mobile phones and money in their possession near Kanglatongbi under Sapormeina police station last night.
Sources informed that the particular LPG tankers were travelling in a convoy of around 120 LPG tankers and other goods carriers which were escorted by security forces.
The convoy was heading towards Imphal from Khatkhatti, Assam.
Taking advantage of the security escorts who drove ahead, some five/six unidentified persons who spoke tribal dialect halted three LPG tankers and smashed the wind-shields and side-glasses before robbing Rs 12,000 in cash and three mobile phones from the drivers.
The unidentified miscreants also assaulted some other drivers and their helpers who refused to give them money.
As soon as the convoy reached Imphal, the tanker/truck drivers decided to launch a cease work strike if all the highway robbers are not booked and awarded befitting punishment.
Taking serious note of the decision, IOC officials and representatives of the State Government held a meeting with tanker drivers today.
Following appeals from the IOC officials to continue their service, tanker drivers were reportedly holding a meeting among themselves at the time of filing this report regarding their next course of action.
