Conference, medical camp mark World Patient Safety Day

World Patient Safety Day was celebrated widely in the State today to raise awareness about patient safety, promote actions to enhance safety in healthcare, and encourage stakeholders to unite for safer healthcare practices.
This year's theme, "Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety," emphasised the vital role of accurate and timely diagnosis in safeguarding patients and improving health outcomes.
The slogan, "Get it Right, Make it Safe!" reinforced the need for precise diagnoses to ensure patient safety.
To celebrate World Patient Safety Day, Shija Hospital & Research Institute Pvt Ltd (SHRI) in collaboration with Association of Healthcare Provider India (AHPI) and Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur organised a conference on the theme, "Get it Right, Make It Safe" at IMA hall in Lamphelpat.
It was graced by Health Services Manipur, Director, Dr O Sanahanbi Devi; IMA Manipur State Branch, former president, Dr Shyamkumar Laishram; AHPI Manipur State Chapter, president, Dr Kh Palin and SHRI, Medical Services, Director, Dr Jugindra S as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr O Sanahanbi said that World Patient Safety Day provides an opportunity to raise public awareness and promote collaboration among patients, healthcare workers, policymakers, and leaders to enhance patient safety.
She shared that a diagnosis determines a patient's health condition and is crucial for providing the necessary care & treatment.
"A diagnostic error occurs when there is a failure to provide an accurate and timely explanation of a patient's health issue.
This can involve delays, incorrect or missed diagnoses, or failing to effectively communicate the diagnosis to the patient", said the Director stressing on the importance of effective communication between patient and doctor.
RAJ MEDICITY
Raj Medicity marked World Patient Safety Day with a notable event held at the Multi-purpose Hall, Raj Medicity.
This year's theme, "Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety: Get it right, make it safe," was emphasized throughout the day's proceedings.
The event was graced by Haobijam Rajen Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, Raj Medicity; Dr Vijayraj Haobijam, Executive Director; Prof Dr Ch Arunkumar Singh, Director Medical; Dr Aribam Ibotombi Sharma, Medical Superintendent and Dr Ng Narendra Singh, HOD, General Surgery.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the "Raj Medicity Antibiotic Policy", marking its inaugural edition.
Haobijam Rajen Singh released the policy and expressed his satisfaction.
He commended the dedicated efforts of all involved and particularly recognized Dr Ch Arunkumar Singh for his pivotal role in leading the policy committee.
He also underscored the critical role of effective communication between patients and consultants in enhancing safety and treatment outcomes.
Haobijam Rajen emphasized that clear communication is essential to bridging gaps in patient care and ensuring that ongoing treatments are well understood.
The session on patient safety included insightful talks from esteemed resource persons such as Dr Sunil Lourembam, Surgical Oncologist; Dr S Ranjita, Consultant Pathologist and Dr Daili Khuo, Consultant Anaesthesiologist.
The discussion was moderated by Dr P Latsaheb Singh, HOD Orthopaedics.
INDIAN ARMY
The Indian Army organised a medical camp in Imphal East district today to commemorate the World Patient Safety Day.
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote community health and well-being, a team of medical professionals including a Gynaecologist from RIMS, Manipur provided essential medical services to the villagers of Upper Island, Lower Island, Leishiphung and Rishiphung.
The Army Medical Officer also conducted a session on disease prevention and healthy living, empowering the villagers with valuable knowledge.
A total of 225 locals including 30 children, 35 senior citizens and 90 women benefited from the medical camp, reflecting the Indian Army's commitment to social responsibility and healthcare accessibility.
