Cong may name candidates after Rahul's visit

Imphal, March 17 2019: Congress candidates for Inner Manipur PC and Outer Manipur PC may be announced after AICC president Rahul Gandhi's return to Delhi from Manipur, according to MPCC president Gaikhangam.

Speaking to some media persons at Congress Bhavan this evening, Gaikhangam conveyed that Rahul would land here from Arunachal Pradesh in the afternoon of March 19 .

He will address an election rally at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal East on March 20 and leave Imphal for Agartala on the same day.

The two Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha election may be officially announced after Rahul Gandhi reaches Delhi from Agartala.

MPCC has already placed a list of recommended candidates before AICC Central Election Committee.

To a query about the Congress party's election manifesto, Gaikhangam who is also a member of Congress Working Committee (CWC), said that AICC leaders have been told to incorporate all major issues of the North East region.

MPCC proposed scrapping of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, restoration of special status to all the North East States and removal of Assam Rifles from Langthabal hills (MU campus), Gaikhangam said.

Asserting that the ensuing election should not be seen casually, the MPCC president remarked that people's grievances against BJP have been growing manifold as they have realised that what BJP did and promised were all lies and illusions.

He also exuded confidence that Congress candidates would emerge victorious in the State and hinted that the two candidates who would be representing Congress party are well qualified.
