Imphal, August 16 2014 :
The Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has been mulling to launch all sorts of agitation apart from filing a PIL against Manipur University in case the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation on Admission) Amendment Act 2012 is not implemented from the 2014-15 academic session.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, LH Seitinthang of MUTSU decried that Central Educational Institutions (Reservation on Admission) Amendment Act 2012 has not been implemented in Manipur University till date even though the same Act should have been implemented since 2012 .
The Manipur University Academic Council's decision to start implementing CEI(RA) Amendment Act from 2015 is unacceptable to MUTSU.
"It is our demand that the same Act be implemented from the current academic session", Seitinthang said.
As per the amendment Act, admission seat reservation for ST students should be 31 per cent as against 7.5 per cent prescribed by the 2006 version of the same Act which is still in force in Manipur university.
The Act has nothing to do with the Sixth Schedule.
In case the Act is not implemented from the current academic session, MUTSU would be compelled to launch all sorts of protest agitation.
The student body is also mulling to file a PIL against MU authority for keeping the particular Act at bay.
