Gold worth Rs 39.9 lakhs seized

Imphal, September 15 2018:
Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one gold smuggler carrying 08 Gold biscuits weighing 1.33 kgs worth approximately Rs 39.9 lakhs at PVCP, Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district.

On 15 September, at around 3 PM, based on specific input received from reliable source of DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence), Imphal regarding smuggling of Gold of foreign origin, a White coloured bus travelling from Moreh to Imphal was stopped at PVCP, Khudengthabi for checking.
On thorough checking of baggage and bus, Gold of foreign origin was found inside both slippers of one of the passengers of the bus.
During interrogation, apprehendee revealed that he was handed over the Gold by an unknown person in Moreh and was told that someone would come and collect at Imphal.
He was promised a sum of Rs 8,000/- for the delivery.
Mr Md Muhammuddin, age 65 years of Lilong Haoreibi, Thoubal district was apprehended smuggling the Gold.
Recovered gold biscuits along with apprehendee was handed over to DRI, Imphal.
