Resolution of Naga issue on NPF agenda

Kohima, March 15 2013 : Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar today said that the Naga People's Front (NPF) led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government was committed to a a speedy and Honourable resolution of the Naga political problem.

Delivering his last address in the House, Kumar said that the state recognised the Naga political problem as a key issue for the future of the people and remained committed to facilitate the long standing problem.

He said the state government hoped that the Government of India and the Naga nationalist groups would work out the much awaited solution of the Naga problem sooner than later.

The Governor, who has been transferred to Kerala for the remainder of his term, also said that the state government was focusing on improving agriculture and the target of food grain production for the current year was 5.98 lakh tonne.

He said that despite various challenges, the DAN government was trying to provide good governance and development to the people.

"The fact that NPF has come back with a thumping majority is an indication of the faith reposed in the NPF led DAN government by the people of Nagaland," he said.

He announced that construction of a foothill road, from Khelma in Peren district to Tizit in Mon district via Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung and Longleng districts would be taken up as an 'iconic project' during the 12th plan.

He said that around four lakh job card holders were now getting wages through MGNREGS.

Under the IAY scheme assistance was provided for 6500 houses this year alone.
