Imphal, December 14 2016:
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Internal Security Secretary today made a direct assessment of the impacts of the UNC's indefinite economic blockade.
MHA Internal Security Secretary MK Singla who came to Imphal on the advice of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take stock of the State's situation in the backdrop of the indefinite economic blockade held a high level meeting and collected reports from different officials.
The high level meeting held at the conference hall of Old Secretariat was attended by the Chief Secretary, the DGP, the GOC of 57 Mountain Division and high ranking officials of Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF and intelligence agencies.
MK Singla suggested the State officials to take Imphal-Jiribam route for transportation of goods if Imphal-Dimapur highway is too risky.
In response, State officials pointed out that it would be difficult to transport all the goods along Imphal-Jiribam highway alone.
They further suggested that the Central Government should take up the issue with NSCN-IM which is under a dialogue process with New Delhi and get the economic blockade lifted.
The State officials further stated that it was necessary to open Imphal-Dimapur highway.
The MHA Internal Security Secretary held another separate meeting with the DGP and top officials of army, AR, CRPF, BSF and intelligence agencies later in the evening.
It is said that the Secretary would present a detailed report to the Union Home Minister about the State's situation after returning to Delhi.
