Joykisan seeks constructive suggestions from Opposition on Manipur crisis
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, July 14 2024: While seeking constructive suggestions from the Opposition party to restore normalcy in the State, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan has stated that safeguarding Manipur must be the topmost priority of all the legislators irrespective of their political affiliation.

He made the statement after inaugurating a newly constructed building of Thangmeiband Kabui Women Organisation (Namthalong Women Society) and Namthalong Youth Club at Namthalong, today.

Speaking as the chief guest at the function, the MLA continued that there is no reason why the Government won't welcome constructive suggestions from the Opposition party and the Congress MPs to bring peace in Manipur.

Politicising the situation in Manipur must be stopped and both the ruling and the Opposition parties must work together to safeguard the unity and integrity of Manipur, he said.

Saying that the role of Opposition leaders in solving any problem is immense, Joykisan asked them (the Opposition leaders) to give constructive ideas to the Government so as to end the unrest in Manipur.

He also said that the ruling and the Opposition parties need to work together to ensure early resettlement of all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from both the hill and valley districts.

There won't be any development in the State if there is no peace, the MLA added.

There still is no complete peace in Manipur as Meetei people still cannot go to hill districts and the Kukis cannot return to Imphal, he said and added that both the communities have been suffering since the last 14 months.

The Government alone cannot restore normalcy in Manipur and as such every Manipuri should take part in the peace initiative, he added.

Violence only begets violence and conflicts that had taken place across the world brought only loss and suffering, the MLA said and added that it is the innocent civilians who suffer most during any conflict.

The war that is fought to safeguard land, country or people is another thing but there is nothing to gain from internal conflict or battle, he advised.

To safeguard the bond between fellow Manipuris is equally important as keeping the geographical integrity of the State intact, Joykisan maintained and assured that no harm can be done to Manipur as long as there is emotional integrity among Manipuris.

No one can break the State apart if the people of Manipur stand united, Joykisan said.

Why should people stand guard in their villages when there already are enough companies of security forces in the State, the MLA asked while maintaining that all these villagers defend their villages as they have no other options.

Joykisan urged all concerned to entrust the task of safeguarding civilians and their properties to the security forces.

He also said that the Government should drive out the drug cartel involved in the conflict in Manipur using all its might.

Appealing to both the Meeteis and Kukis including legislators and CSO leaders to forget and forgive for all things that had taken place in the past 14 months, the MLA sought support from all people residing in Manipur viz Nagas, Kukis, Meiteis and Meitei Pangals to restore normalcy in Manipur.

There is no reason why the Chief Minister won't welcome constructive suggestions from the Opposition party to end the conflict in Manipur, he said and added that the Congress party and its two MPs can always share their suggestion to them too.

Suggesting that an open dialogue can be held to find a solution to the crisis, Joykisan said that scheming to gain political mileage during this difficult time, however, would be inappropriate.

IGP (Prison) Faumei Gonglin, Namthanlong khunbu Poushonglung, Namthanlong khullak Gaimeibung Kamei and TKWO president Ashimlu Remmei also attended the programme among others.
