The total Limestone deposits found in Manipur is estimated to be around 20 million tonnes and at least five firms including local as well as outside based ones have approached the Government for taking up the responsibility of reviving the Cement factory which had been abolished on account of law and order problem in the State, Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) O Nabakishore has disclosed.
Talking to mediapersons in this office chamber today, Nabakishore said that five firms including Ispat and the Orissa based Baleshware Alloy have shown keen interest on setting up cement factories.
But it would all depend on the position of the power supply in the State.
Although the Government desires that such factories should be set up at Yaingangpokpi area where the position of power supply is better, no concrete decision have been taken in this regard, he added.
Nabakishore contended that cement factory with daily production capacity of 500 metric tonnes could be set up in Manipur.
