MSF celebrates 14th foundation anniversary

Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) today celebrated its 14th foundation anniversary at Konjeng Hajari Youth Development Club hall, Tiddim Road with AMUCO president KT Rahman gracing the celebration as the chief guest and eight former and present presidents of the student body attending as the presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Rahman suggested that student organisations concentrate on activities that concern interest of the student community such as campaigning against unavailability of text books, dilapidated condition of school buildings and irregular attendance of teachers.
Expressing opposition against student bodies enforcing bandhs and taking part in issues related to human rights or price rise, he also called upon the student activists to strive for inclusion of Manipuri folklores and history of the forefathers as academic syllabus.
former president of Manipur University Students' Union Ksh Narayan in his address contended that school authorities exaggerate number of students with the sole aim of getting excess items of various schemes to ultimate gain personal wealth.
To curb such unhealthy practices time has come for close monitoring of different Central Government sponsored schemes such as SSA and RMSA, he said.
Observing that lack of basic facilities and poor success rate in many of the Government schools as some of the factors why parents prefer to educate their wards in private schools inspite of the fact that education at private schools are more expensive, he lamented that education rapidly becoming an expensive affair is posing great threat to children belonging to poor families.
Narayan also advocated intense campaigns against privatisation of the education sector to ensure that future pillars of Manipur have equal opportunity regarding education.
Noted social activist Th Iboyaima in his address, cited inefficient governance and faulty policies as the main cause for traders dictating prices of essential commodities.
Along with present MSF president L Umakanta Meitei, the former presidents who attended the event included Ph Nando Luwang, Y Dhakeshore, Kh Gourachandra, S Sanjoy, Md Attabuddin, Laishram Ibomcha and ng Milan.
