EGM condemns threats by KCP (Poirei Meitei)

Imphal, July 13 2016: The Editors' Guild Manipur has strongly condemned the intimidation made to its General Secretary for publishing the press release issued by KCP (Poirei Meitei) regarding JNIMS Director L Deben in a shortened form.

EGM conducted an emergency meeting today to discuss the matter, said a statement.

EGM said that as there are certain 'dos and dont's' for publication of news, the gist of the press release was published after having a thorough deliberation by the Editors.

The meeting expressed dissatisfaction for intimidating the media houses as such threats may curtail the freedom of press, the statement said.

In this regard, EGM also urged different organisations of the State to extend support to media persons in discharging their duties freely.

The meeting on the other hand condemned the Government for maintaining silence when different groups threaten the media houses and hamper its smooth running.
