Imphal, June 13 2011:
On the concluding day of the 20th State conference of CPI held in the campus of Regional College at Lilong Chajing, former Minister Dr Moirangthem Nara has been elected Secretary of the CPI Manipur State Council.
Along with Dr Nara, Leishangthem Thoiren and Th Nabakumar were also elected Assistant Secretaries.
The CPI conference started on June 10 and concluded yesterday.
Addressing a press meet at Irabot Bhavan here today, Dr Nara said that State conference chalked out a guideline to form a stable and alternative democratic coalition Govt after the 2011 Assembly elections.
Saying that no party can form the next Govt on its own, Dr Nara, without naming Congress party, asserted that their dream to get absolute majority in the next Assembly elections would remain a pipedream.
He assured that maximum efforts would be put in to implement the guideline of the conference which is to form a strong coalition Govt.Reacting to Works Minister K Ranjit statement that CPI has been playing a farcical politics to the people of Manipur, Dr Nara remarked that the statement was an unsavoury and untimely mockery.
He asserted that Minister Ranjit made such a statement because he was ignorant about the fact that many parties other than Congress have formed Governments at the Centre.
Minister Ranjit would not be knowing about the false commitment given by Union Minister Jacob during Congress rule at the Centre that Assam Rifles would be removed from Kangla.
He further asserted that the first steps to shift Assam Rifles away from Kangla was taken up by comrade Indrajit Gupta by sanctioning Rs 46 crores when he was the Union Home Minister.
Ranjit might not have any idea about the ultimatum served by CPI to the Government to withdraw from the coalition Government if Assam Rifles were not removed from kangla before August 13, 2004, Dr Nara said.
The credit for removing Assam Rifles from Kangla should go to the people of Manipur, not the Congress party, he asserted.
Saying that the opening of the NPF unit at Senapati has implications on territorial integrity of Manipur, Dr Nara said that CPI did not support the NPF's move.
The press meet was also attended by former Secretary L Iboyaima and many other party leaders.
The three day long conference adopted different resolutions including initiation of dialogue between the Government of India and insurgent groups of Manipur, repeal of AFSPA, safeguarding territorial integrity, all round development of Manipur by giving it special status, establishment of separate High Court, construction of the fourth Nupi Keithel etc.
