Brave Meitei Nupis remembered

Nupi Lan Ningshing Numit Thoupang Lup observed the 85th Nupi Lan Ningshing Numit under the aegis of FOCS Working Committee (Women's Wing) at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
The ceremony kicked off with the offering of floral tributes before the photos of the brave Manipuri women who rose in protest against the British empire in 1904 and 1939 .
The event was graced by Aribam Noutuneshwari, retd District and Sessions Court Judge as the chief guest; Laishram Mema, chairperson, Nupi Lan Ningshing Numit Thoupang Lup as the functional president and Serto Hoinu Kom, member, Kom Tribe Organisation Valley; Piring Hoinu Chothe, president, Chothe Women's Society; Phaomei Puiruna Kabui, president, Kabui Women's Organisation, Manipur; YK Iris Thangal, advisor, Thangal Women Union; Ch Achim Aimol, executive member, Aimol Development Society; Dr Khullakpam Sapana, Research Assistant, Centre for Meitei Pangal Cultural Studies.

Addressing the gathering, Laishram Mema stated that the courageous Manipuri mothers successfully revolted against the Britishers, known across the globe as the masterminds of the empire "where the sun never sets" and saved the motherland.
It is time to remind the people of this notable episode in history as Manipur continues to reel under Kuki aggression, she said.
Stating that today's program was held to pay obeisance to the brave mothers, she urged the younger generation to learn from the valour and wealth of wisdom left behind by them.
Laishram Mema also urged the lakhs of Manipuri women to imbibe the spirit of the Nupi Lan fighters and protect the State for posterity.
