Imphal, November 12 2021:
The Wakhanlon Mannaba Apun-ba (WMA) has demanded that the State Government should send a recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list before the election code of conduct becomes effective.
WMA president Sadokpam Tomba Mangang put up the same demand while speaking to media during a sit-in protest staged by WMA at Wahengbam Leikai today and warned the Government that if the demand for ST status for Meitei/Meetei is not fulfilled, WMA would launch a series of agitation.
Tomba Mangang added that the Central Government had called for a recommendation for the same more than four times but the State Government is yet to send the said recommendation.
He added that the resolution to include Meetei/Meitei in the ST list was unanimously adopted at a public gathering held at GM Hall and public rally attended by lakhs of people including the current Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba had also been organised demanding the ST status.
If the Meitei/Meetei community is not included in the ST list, the community will become extinct, he said.
