Imphal, November 12 2020:
The Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), has more than made it clear that a final pact, when it comes, will deal with only the Nagas of Nagaland and not those who identify themselves as Nagas outside the boundary of Nagaland.
This was the stand as spelt out by the convenor of the NNPGs, N Kitovi Zhimomi during a meeting, said the Co-ordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) .
Recalling the meeting held on November 10 at Dimapur, COCOMI in a statement said that during the meeting, NNPGs made it clear that their stand is for the Nagas of Nagaland and added that it is the people who are not from Nagaland who are delaying the final accord.
"The stand of the NNPGs is for the Nagas of Nagaland alone and there is nothing wrong for the Nagas in the other States to live in their own State," the NNPGs conveyed during the meeting with COCOMI, said the statement.
The NNPGs however made it clear that extending Article 371 (A) of the Constitution of India to the Naga inhabited areas of other States lies solely with the Government of India.
Mocking at the demand for a separate flag and Constitution, NNPGs said that when the Government of India has not even agreed to the principle of shared sovereignty then how can they agree to a separate flag and Constitution.
Looking at the ground reality and to take the people and the North East region forward, it is important for all to shed narrow and communal outlook and instead collectively work together as one belonging to the Mongoloid race, COCOMI quoted the NNPGs leaders as saying.
NNPGs will not do anything that will hurt the sentiments of the neighbouring people.
Why should a solution for the Nagas of Nagaland run over the interests and aspirations of the neighbouring people, they asserted and added that prolonging the peace process is nothing short of betraying the Naga people, they said.
The people of Nagaland have started questioning the violence and killings unleashed by the NSCN (IM) in Nagaland, they added.
