7th convocation of NIT Manipur held virtually

The 7th Convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur was held today in virtual mode in its seminar hall.
The convocation was graced by Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Member of Parliament, Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency as chief guest, Prof Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman AICTE and Prof Virendra Kumar Tewari, Director IIT Kharagpur as guest of honours.
Prof Goutam Sutradhar, Director NIT Manipur presided the Convocation.
"It was a challenging year with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the life of every one of us.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the academic year did not end the way it was planned and the coming months are likely to throw more challenges to all of us.
In fact, the pandemic has shown how vulnerable our world is.
The life experiences that you have gained today will become a part of who you are and how you face challenges in the future.
Please remember, every crisis is also an opportunity, and let these difficult times inspire you to do something creative for the fellow human beings.
Let us all try to become a game changer", stated Prof Goutam Sutradhar, while addressing the august convocation.
The Director also mentioned about various achievements of the institute viz being a participating institute of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, construction of water conservation pond and rain water harvesting under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, holistic efforts for cleanliness and plastic free campaign and its glorious academic and research achievements.
Prof Anil D Sahasrabudhe congratulated the degree recipients as their hard works and dedication to maintain high standards, make them earn their degrees and awards.
"The technology is changing rapidly.
What is taught in colleges becomes irrelevant by the time one graduates.
The interdependence of one discipline of engineering with the other is more relevant today than at any other time.
Hence interdisciplinary research is gaining importance.
NEP 2020 also supports interdisciplinary universities.
There is a space for even biology in engineering curriculum.
It is often said that students are to be prepared for solving problems which are not even known today.
Hence strong foundations in basic sciences and engineering become important.
Another aspect which all of you should remember is life-long learning.
Learning never stops", he added.
Prof Virendra Kumar Tewari while addressing the successful students stated that the challenges in life are many, as students they were facing academic challenges, now they should be ready to face real life problems.
The rigorous academic, technical and social training that the students received at NIT Manipur will help to overcome these challenges opined Prof Tiwari.
While delivering the convocation address, Dr RK Ranjan Singh urged the young graduates to come up with innovative ways to tackle challenges of the Society.
"Young technocrats should come up with landscape factored technology.
Institutes like NIT Manipur can play a vital role to fill the void of technical education.
I, congratulate, team NIT Manipur successfully preparing highly talented pool of engineers, who are ready to shoulder the responsibility of nation building.
These days, young minds should change their focus from job seekers to job providers", he added.
Registrar of NIT Manipur, Prof Kh Manglem Singh administered pledge to recipients of 109 B Tech, 53 M Tech (Full Time), 4 M Tech (Part Time), 29 M.Sc and 15 Ph.D degrees.
Being overall topper of B Tech program of the institute, Nityanand Tiwari, B Tech Electrical Engineering received the prestigious Chairman's gold medal award.
Institute gold medals were also awarded to the following branch toppers: Samyak Raj (Computer Science & Engineering), Yendreddy Venu Gopal Reddy, (Electronics & Communication Engineering), Akshay Saseendran M P (Mechanical Engineering) and Potsangbam Saroja Devi (Civil Engineering).
It may be mentioned that as per Ministry of Education, National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), India Rankings 2020, NIT Manipur is ranked 158th among top engineering institutions in the country.
NIT Manipur has consistently been able to feature in the top 200 Engineering Institutions in the country since NIRF was introduced.
