Imphal, December 11 2024:
A sit-in protest was staged today at Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai demanding withdrawal of an FIR filed against Korounganba Khuman, leader of Arambai Tenggol by National Investigation Agency (NIA) and revocation of Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1958, which was re-imposed in the jurisdiction of six police stations in the State.
Jointly organised by NEINASANG Club and Tera Loukrakpam Leikai Apunba Lup Meira Paibi, the protest demonstration was participated by hundreds of Meira Pabis from the Sagolband area.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the sit-in, Tera Loukrakpam Leikai Apunba Lup Meira Paibi spokesperson Paobam Sanahanbi denounced the Government of India's handling of the prolonged conflict which has been going on for more than 18 months and the recent attempts to arrest village volunteers.
Questioning the logic of pulling up village volunteers who were only defending innocent and helpless villagers, she said, "Instead of targeting the youths, the Government should take actions against the 10 Kuki MLAs who are advocating for disintegration of the State by raising demand for a separate administration" .
She reiterated that the youths were compelled to take up arms after Kuki-Zo narco-terrorists launched a deadly aggression, slaughtered many innocent people and burnt down thousands of houses.
She also condemned the attempt to arrest Korounganba Khuman, asserting that Arambai Tenggol is not a militant group and that neither its members nor village volunteers shbuld free arrest.
Sanahanbi declared that Arambai Tenggol played a crucial role in defending the Meitei community from Kuki aggression, and vowed that the Meira Paibis would stand in support of Korounganba Khuman and all village volunteers.
She also appealed to the Government to withdraw AFSPA from places under six police stations where the legislation was reimposed.
Furthermore, Sanahanbi cautioned that the Meira Paibis will launch an intense agitation if their demands are not entertained.
