Students take out rally with demand to make Jiri free zone for education

Jiribam, September 11 2024:
Four student bodies of Jiribam district including MSF, DESAM and KSA took out a rally under the theme "Make Education Free Zone" from Jiribam Higher Secondary School at 9:30 am today and submitted a memorandum to Jiribam DC.
The students held a banner bearing the message "Let us get our education in peace, protect human life from Kuki militants" as the rally passed through Irabot Complex at Babupara and reached Dibong, Chingdong Leikai where the students submitted a memorandum to the Jiribam DC.
The rally goers shouted slogans such as "Go back Central forces", "State legislators who have forsaken their duties should resign", "No compromise on territorial integrity of Manipur", "We want justice".
According to a protesting student, in the memorandum the students have called for urgent intervention on the part of the Deputy Commissioner Jiribam to make Jiribam a free zone for education as the ongoing crisis in Manipur has disturbed the student community for a long time.
Additionally, the memorandum also mentions the brutal killing of one Yurembam Kulabi (Kulendra) of Ningthem Khunou (Nungchappi) by suspected Kuki militants on September 7.It pointed out that the deceased's daughter Yurembam Lasmi Devi is a student of Jiri College studying in BA 2nd Semester and has been traumatized by the incident.
Condemning the brutal killing, the students have urged the Jiribam DC to make arrangement for sufficient compensation to the family and to protect the lives of the student community in this crucial situation.
They also called for prompt and urgent action against the Kuki militants responsible for the killing of Kulabi.
The student further informed that the Jiribam DC assured to fulfill their demands within ten days.
