Imphal, August 11 2022:
Categorically stating that the Indian Independence Day is not related with Manipur and has no meaning in the State, the United People's Revolutionary Front of Manipur (UPRFM) has called a total shutdown all over Kangleipak from 6 am to 6 pm of August 15 .
A press release issued by the outfit's information and publicity secretary L Rolin alias Thoupangba Meitei alleged that India Was built after annexing many independent kingdoms including Kangleipak through coercion and military force in total violation of international laws.
Kangleipak had already established a democratic form of Government through adult franchise based on a newly enacted written Constitution before it was allegedly annexed by India, it said.
It went on to claim that there is no instance of any kind of association in history between India and Kangleipak which existed as an independent country for over 2000 years.
After its defeat in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, Kangleipak (Manipur) was kept under British occupation for 57 years.
With the departure of British, Kangleipak regained its independence on August 14, 1947.The Manipur State Constitution Act came into force in 1947 and the first election of independent Manpur was held in June-July 1948 .
After this election which was based on adult franchise, a sovereign National Assembly was established in Kangleipak.
However, the king of Manipur was called to Shillong, coerced and forced to sign the Manipur Merger Agreement without any endorsement from the National Assembly.
Thus Kangleipak was merged into the Indian Union on October 15, 1949, the outfit said.
It added that the total shutdown would not cover emergency services, religious functions and media.
