Imphal, December 10 2019:
Despite lauding the plan to extend Inner Line Permit System to Manipur, CPI Manipur State Council has reasoned that the people still need to stand together and oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan today, CPI MSC State secretary L Sotinkumar said that the Communist party, Left parties, Congress are all against the CAB and will continue to oppose it.
Pointing out that States which already have ILP like Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are even opposing the Bill, Sotinkumar said that it is extremely disappointing to see the Chief Minister of Manipur attempting to blind the people to the threat of CAB and urging them to celebrate the news that ILPS will be extended to Manipur.
He continued that the total shutdown called against CAB was successfully completed in the State but added that it is disappointing to see some organisations celebrating on the streets after the announcement made by the Union Home Minister, completely disregarding the significance of the shutdown.
Reasoning that the State Government's and the Chief Minister's logic that CAB will be redundant in Manipur since ILPS will be enforced is not acceptable, Sotinkumar said that it is extremely important for the people to get their priorities straight and stand united against CAB.
