Ibobi opens classical dance festival

The 9th Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance was opened today at the historic and pilgrim site Kaina by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
The festival being organised by the Art and Culture Department will continue till November 13 .
Addressing the opening function Ibobi noted that it was quite appropriate to open the national classical dance festival at Kaina which is closely associated with the life of king Bhagyachandra and for that matter growth of Hinduism in Manipur.
Notably, Kaina is a protected site under the Manipur Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act.
Ibobi asserted that Kaina is not only a tourist spot but also a pilgrimage site.

Reminding that the idol of Lord Govindajee was made from a fig tree which was growing at Kaina during the reign of king Bhagyachandra, the Chief Minister asserted that Kaina is second Brindaban to Manipuri Hindus.
It is the wish of the Government to promote Manipuri culture, custom, dance and music.
Natu Sumkritana Maha Raas form of classical dance was presented on the opening day of the National level dance festival.
The second day of the festival would be opened Governor Gurbachan Jagat at Kangla.
The second day would feature Manipur classical dance (solo), Kuchipudi and Sattriya.
The third day would feature Odissi, Mohininattyam and Manipuri classical dance.
Kathak and Manipuri classical dance would be the main attractions of the fourth day.
