Imphal, September 10 2024:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh should personally take charge of the Unified Command, said the All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State Committee today.
In a statement, it said the drone and rocket attacks that killed civilians recently are a failure of Kuldeip Singh, the Security Advisor who is in charge of the Unified Command and the Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, and as such, they should be removed from their posts.
When the Chief Minister should take the charge of the Unified Command, if he doesn't want to take the responsibility then the post should be given to other willing Minister or MLA, said AITUC-Manipur State Committee.
The State's existence has no meaning if it can't crackdown on militants responsible for carrying out terror activities.
Waiting for Centre's response before acting at this juncture will not help save Manipur.
The State should assert its power, it said.
It also denounced the Government and the State force for the brutal crackdown on student protesters today.
Instead of acting brutally against the students, they should face Kuki militants and punish them for carrying out acts of terrorism, killing and hurting civilians, it said.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Nupi Marup has vehemently condemned former DG of Assam Rifles, PC Nair for his remark that "no bombs were dropped from drones in Manipur" .
The statement Nair made on a TV channel clearly shows his open support to Kuki terrorists carrying out heinous attacks and killing civilians, said the All Manipur Nupi Marup.
In an attempt to justify his claim that "no bombs were dropped by drones", the former DG had said that there were "no splinter injuries to anyone".
Notably, drones were used to drop bombs by the Kuki militants for the first time on September 1 at Koutruk.
While several people including personnel of the police were hurt by splinters in explosions, bullets fired by Kuki militants killed a woman and injured her minor daughter.
